On March 28, 2023, at the age of 71, Ryuichi Sakamoto left this world, deeply mourned.
However, his music has not stopped with time, continuing to leave a lasting resonance with those living in the present.
In 2013, for the first time in 16 years, Sakamoto performed with a full orchestra in Japan, creating a huge buzz with Playing the Orchestra 2013. As an updated version of that performance, his 2014 Tokyo concert, where he himself conducted, has finally been turned into a film.
In this work, Sakamoto conducts the entire performance while playing the piano, featuring a wide range of music, from YMO classics to iconic pieces such as "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" and "The Last Emperor," along with other film scores he has composed, all performed with the grandeur of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Now, 10 years later, Ryuichi Sakamoto | Playing the Orchestra 2014 is vividly reborn on the big screen, accompanied by an exceptional sound environment.
